DIDCOT NEWBURY & SOUTHAMPTON RAILWAY

John Bethell was a solicitor who promoted the Oxford, Southampton, Gosport & Portsmouth Railway, popularly known as Bethell's Line, in the 1840s.  It was to run from the Great Western Railway at Didcot to a junction with the London & South Western Railway at Andover Road Station, now Micheldever.  The railway was not built but would have followed a similar route to the later Didcot, Newbury & Southampton Railway (DNSR).

Joseph Locke was the engineer who was engaged to build the abortive Bethell's Line.

William Tatham was a London solicitor who raised the £30,000 Parliamentary deposit for the DNSR in the 1870s.

Falkiner and Tancred were the contractors engaged to build the DNSR.  The partners were T. H. Falkiner and Sir Thomas Tancred.

John Fowler was engineer to the DNSR.
